Before you transfer

  • Unlock the domain
    Turn off the registrar or transfer lock at your current registrar.
  • Get the authorisation code
    Also called an EPP or auth code. Your current registrar gives it to you.
  • Check it hasn't expired
    Renew it first if it has. An expired domain can't be transferred.
  • Check your contact email
    Your current registrar may email the domain's owner to confirm the move.

How a transfer works

  1. Unlock and get the code

    At your current registrar, unlock the domain and copy its authorisation (EPP) code.

  2. Start the transfer

    Enter the domain above, check it can be moved, add the code and pay.

  3. Approval

    The registry asks your current registrar to release it. They may email you to confirm. This usually takes up to 5 to 7 days.

  4. Done

    The domain is in your client area with one year added to its expiry date.

Transfer questions

The domain must be unlocked at your current registrar, and you need its authorisation (EPP) code. The domain must not have expired. Enter it above, check it can be moved, add the code and pay.

The transfer price shown for each extension includes a one-year renewal, so one year is added to your current expiry date. You don't lose the time already paid for.

Usually up to 5 to 7 days. Your current registrar may email the domain owner to confirm. Approving that email can finish the transfer sooner.

No. A transfer changes who manages the domain, not where it points. Your nameservers and DNS records stay as they are, so your website and email keep working during and after the transfer.

Most can. A transfer can be refused if the domain is locked, expired, the code is wrong, or it was registered or transferred very recently. We check eligibility when you enter the domain above.

For .in-family domains, Mothersoft Technologies, a NIXI-accredited .IN registrar. For other extensions, PDR Ltd. (PublicDomainRegistry.com), with Motherhost managing them for you. Motherhost is our brand.

It's free on every .in domain. For most other extensions you can add it as a yearly add-on after the transfer. Privacy protection from your old registrar doesn't carry over.
