If you no longer need any Motherhost products, you can ask us to close your account permanently. Closing an account is a request that our team reviews. It isn't instant.
This can't be undone. Once your request is approved, your account is closed and can't be recovered. If you might use Motherhost again, you can keep the account open without any products. There's no charge for an account with nothing in it.
Before you start
- Only the account owner can close the account. Other users on the account (for example, people you invited under User Management) can't. If you only want to stop using someone else's account, ask the owner to remove you.
- Every product and domain must be cancelled first. The deletion request is blocked while you still have anything active.
- Back up your data. Download website files, databases, emails and copies of your invoices you need for your records.
- Keeping your domain? Transfer it to another provider before closing your account. Get its transfer code from My Domains → (your domain) → EPP/Auth Code.
- Unpaid invoices: clear or settle any outstanding invoices under My Invoices.
Step 1: Cancel your products and domains
Cancel everything that's still active on your account. See Cancel products in my Motherhost account for full steps.
- Hosting, email, cloud and other services: go to My Products/Services, click the product, click Cancellation Request, and choose Immediate.
- Domains: open a support ticket asking us to cancel the domain or turn off its auto-renewal.
Wait until each product is no longer shown as Active before you move on to Step 2. A request to cancel at the End of Billing Period keeps the product active until that date, so your account can only be closed after it ends.
If you're within a money-back period, you can also request a refund before closing your account.
Step 2: Submit your deletion request
- Log in to your account at my.motherhost.com.
- Click your profile icon at the top right, then click My Profile.
- Click Delete Account at the bottom of the profile menu.
- Read the notes under This is permanent.
- Optionally, in Reason (optional), tell us why you're leaving. It helps us improve.
- Click Delete My Account.
- In the confirmation box, click Yes, delete my account. To stop, click No, keep my account.
You'll see the message "Your account deletion request has been submitted. Our team will review it and follow up by email."
Seeing a list of items instead of the button? The page lists any domains or services that are still active, each with a link. Cancel those first, then come back to this page.
What happens next
- You'll receive an email confirming that your request was submitted.
- Our team reviews the request.
- You'll receive a second email once it has been reviewed. When it's approved, your account is closed and you can no longer log in.
While your request is waiting for review, the Delete Account page shows the date you submitted it. You don't need to submit it again.
We may keep some records, such as invoices and payment history, for as long as the law requires. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Changed your mind? If your request hasn't been approved yet, email us and we'll cancel it.
