You can cancel any product you no longer need from your Motherhost account. Cancellation is a request: you submit it from your account, and our team completes it.

Before you cancel, back up anything you want to keep: website files, databases and emails. When a product is cancelled, its data is removed from our servers and can't be recovered.

Immediate or End of Billing Period?

When you request a cancellation, you choose when it takes effect:

OptionWhat happens
ImmediateThe product is cancelled as soon as our team processes your request. Your website, email or server stops working at that point.
End of Billing PeriodThe product keeps working until its next due date, then it's cancelled and isn't renewed.

If you're not sure, choose End of Billing Period. You keep using what you've already paid for, and it won't renew.

Cancel a domain or stop its renewal

Domains are registered with the domain registry for a fixed period, so they can't be cancelled from a menu. To stop a domain from renewing, or to cancel a domain you've just registered, open a support ticket:

  1. Log in to my.motherhost.com.
  2. Click Support in the top menu, then Open Ticket.
  3. Under What is this about?, choose Domain, then choose the domain under Which one is this about?
  4. In Subject, enter "Cancel domain" or "Stop domain renewal". In Message, tell us what you'd like us to do.
  5. Click Submit Ticket.

We'll turn off auto-renewal so that the domain expires at the end of its current term. We don't send renewal invoices for a domain with auto-renewal turned off.

Moving your domain to another provider? You don't need to cancel it. Get its transfer code from My Domains → (your domain) → EPP/Auth Code and start the transfer at your new provider.

Things to know

  • Only active products can be cancelled from your account. If a product is suspended or its status is anything other than Active, open a support ticket to cancel it.
  • Who can cancel: the account owner, and any user on your account with permission to place orders. If you can't submit a request, ask the account owner.
  • Cancelling isn't a refund. If you're within the money-back period for the product, see Request a refund from Motherhost.
  • Closing your whole account? Cancel all your products and domains first, then follow Close my Motherhost account.
  • Full policy: see our Cancellation Policy.
  • Changed your mind? Contact us as soon as possible. We may be able to stop a cancellation that hasn't been processed yet.
