Why we use it
- To provide your services: setting up hosting, registering domains, delivering email, and keeping everything running.
- To manage your account and billing: creating invoices, taking payments, sending renewal reminders, and meeting tax rules such as GST.
- To keep your account safe: spotting logins from new locations, sending one-time codes, and preventing fraud and abuse.
- To support you: answering your tickets and emails.
- To contact you about your account: service notices, invoices, expiry reminders and security alerts, by email, SMS or other channels you've allowed.
- To send news and offers, only if you haven't opted out.
- To improve our website and services, using analytics data where you've allowed it.
- To meet the law: for example, domain registry rules, tax law, and valid requests from authorities.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share it only where we need to, to deliver your services or to meet the law:
- Domain registries and registrars. Registering a domain requires the registrant's contact details by registry rules. Some of these may appear in public WHOIS or RDAP lookups, unless domain privacy protection applies.
- Payment providers, to process your payments securely.
- Email and SMS delivery providers, to send you codes, invoices and notices.
- Verification partners, for eKYC on .IN and .Bharat domains.
- Security and analytics services, such as Google reCAPTCHA (to block bots), MaxMind GeoIP (for location-based security checks), and Google Tag Manager (analytics, only if you allow it).
- Advertising partners: Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through the Meta Pixel on our website, only if you allow marketing cookies.
- Authorities, only when the law requires it.
These partners may only use your data to provide their service to us.
How long we keep it
We keep your data only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. For example:
- Account and service data is kept while your account is open.
- Invoices and payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires, even after your account is closed.
- Domain registrant details are kept while the domain is registered, as registry rules require.
When you close your account, we delete or anonymize your data, except for what we have to keep by law.
Children's data
Our services are not meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us personal data, email privacy@motherhost.com and we'll remove it.
