2-step verification adds a second layer of protection to your Motherhost account. In your account it's called Two-Factor Authentication. When it's on, logging in needs two things:

  1. your password, and
  2. a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. The code changes every 30 seconds.

Even if someone learns your password, they can't log in without your phone. We strongly recommend turning it on.

Motherhost will never ask for your codes or passwords. Our support, sales and other teams will never call, email, text or message you to ask for a one-time code (email or SMS OTP), your account password, or any hosting, email, server or domain login details. Never share these with anyone, even if they say they are from Motherhost. Learn how to spot fake Motherhost calls and messages.

What you need

An authenticator app on your phone, for example:

  • Google Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Authy
  • 1Password, or another password manager with authenticator codes

Enable 2-step verification

  1. Log in to your account at my.motherhost.com.
  2. Click your profile icon at the top right, then click My Profile.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Under Two-Factor Authentication, click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
  5. Open your authenticator app, add a new account, and scan the QR code shown on screen. Can't scan? Type the code shown under the QR code into your app instead.
  6. Enter the 6-digit code from your app in the Authentication code box.
  7. Click Verify & Enable.

You'll see Two-factor authentication is now enabled.

Logging in with 2-step verification

  1. Enter your email and password at my.motherhost.com and click Log In.
  2. Open your authenticator app and enter the current 6-digit code for Motherhost in Authentication code.
  3. Click Verify & Log In.

If you log in on www.motherhost.com (for example, during checkout), you'll be asked to finish logging in at my.motherhost.com first. See How to Login to Motherhost Account.

Code not accepted? Codes only work for about 30 seconds, so enter the newest one. If codes keep failing, check that your phone's date and time are set automatically.

Disable 2-step verification

  1. Log in to your account and go to My Profile → Security.
  2. Under Two-Factor Authentication, click Disable Two-Factor Authentication.

Two-factor authentication is turned off straight away. Logging in then needs only your password, plus a one-time code by email or SMS when you log in from a new location. Remove the Motherhost entry from your authenticator app afterwards.

Changing phones? Disable two-factor authentication on your account, then enable it again with your new phone. Do this before you reset or give away your old phone.

Lost your phone or authenticator app?

If you can't get a code, you can't finish logging in yourself. Email support@motherhost.com from your registered email address. Our team will verify your identity before removing two-factor authentication from your account. Once you're back in, enable it again with your new phone.
